Accessibility Guide

The following information is a guide to the accessibility of the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center. Please refer to the attached numbered diagram, which corresponds to the following description outlining wheelchair accessible areas.

W1) Main Entrance: Handicapped parking spaces are located within close proximity of the main entrance. The sloped entrance provides wheelchair accessibility through the power assisted main entrance doors.
W2) Passenger Offloading Area: Located outside on South Front Street is a de-boarding area with accessible curb cuts leading to the main entrance.
W          3) Veranda: The Veranda connects the Convention Center to the Sheraton Grand New Bern and Comfort Suites. The Veranda features an accessible ramp and open out doors.
W & B4) Elevator: Conveniently located at front entrance of the Convention Center.
W & B5) Freight Elevator: Conveniently located just off the loading dock in the service corridor.
W6) Interior/Exterior Doors: All doors in the Convention Center are wide and have push out features. The corridors have been designed extra wide for easy traffic flow.
W7) Restrooms: Restrooms are conveniently located on both floors of the Convention Center. All stalls have open out doors, rails, mirrors, towels, hand dryers and low faucets.
W & H8) Pay Phones: Both floors offer pay phones at wheelchair heights. Both levels offer TTD equipment. All house phones are equipped with volume controls.
W9) Water Fountains: Located outside restroom locations on both levels. An additional water fountain is located near the business office. All locations are at wheelchair height.
W & B10) Building Signage: All signage is at an accessible height with Braille print.
W11) Wheelchairs: Tow wheelchairs are available upon request.
W12) Stage Ramps: The portable staging is arranged as specified by the event planner. Ramps are available upon request.
W & H & B13) Fire Alarms: The Convention Center is equipped with alarms having both audio and visual cues and fire emergency exit procedures.
W & H & B14) Area of Rescue: Areas of rescue are located on the first and second levels in the reception areas. An intercom system and lit signage are available on the second level rescue area.
H15) Interpreters: Upon request interpreters can be arranged through area colleges and organizations.
H16) Assisted Listening Devices: Assisted listening can be pre-arranged with our in-house audiovisual company.
W & H & B17) Escort/Services: The New Bern Riverfont Convention Center staff will assist in any way possible. The business center is located on the ground level. The business center has been designed for wheelchair access.
 18) Smoking: The New Bern Riverfont Convention Center is a smoke free facility.
ADA COMPLIANCE: Lessee is responsible for making its activities and all exhibits, booths, staging, audio and visual systems, rigging, partitions, seating, signs, banners, and other temporary structures or installations placed or used by Lessee in New Bern Riverfront Convention Center accessible to qualified individuals with a disability attending Lessee's event with respect to set-up, location of exhibits on the exhibit floor, paths of travel, and other aspects of the event within Lessee's or one of Lessee's exhibitor's control. Lessee will not be required to mae any structural or permanent modifications to the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center. However, Lessee will be responsible for providing temporary auxiliary aids and services to qualified individuals with a disability attending Lessee's event.

"Qualified individuals with a disability" and "auxiliary aids and services" shall have the meanings set forth in the ADA and applicable regulations, including the North Carolina Handicapped Persons Protection Act (N.C. General Statutes 168A-1 et. seq. (1985)).

Lessee shall also indemnify and hold harmless the County of Craven and the New Bern Riverfront Convention Center, their agents, employees, servants, and officials from any and all claims, losses, damages, or expenses, including reasonable attorney's fees arising out of or resulting from Lessee's failure or a failure of one of Lessee's exhibitors to comply with ADA or applicable regulations, including the North Carolina Handicapped Persons Protection Act (N.C. General Statutes 168A-1 et. seq. (1985)).

The New Bern Riverfront Convention Center has been designed in compliance with all applicable ADAAG Standards, including the North Carolina Handicapped Persons Protection Act (N.C. General Statutes 168A-1 et. seq. (1985)). If further assistance is required please notify our office.
